Man this code seems full of broken promises. Time is not correct, Links to items are broken. No response from the autother since 2008. Who is the moderator of this site.

How do you configure the time zone for the time field? I am getting a time that is 7 hours behind.

Does this web part work on sites with anonymous enabled? I am receiving an error of:
The "WhatsNewWebPart" Web Part appears to be causing a problem. Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

I am doing some modification to "whatsnew" webpart code for my project need. [i.e.., Using resx files for the hardcoded texts in the webpart]. I downloaded the source file (.cs file) and did the necessary changes.
But in deployment, i want to keep the same public key for this signed dll [i.e.., the same public key token used by the smarttools dll].
Could you please send me the key file (.snk) file which is used for signing the smarttools dll.
Or is possible to download the complete smarttools solution/project?

Hi This is very nice webpart but this gives you the updates list items rather than exactly what is new I mean If you updated a list item it gives your name next to the list item and then If I updated the same it updates the same record and gives my name , Is it possible for us to show both the records that
1. itemupdated date time yourname
2. itemupdated date time myname

So that it will be really helpfull Im exactly looking out something similar to Newsgators activity stream please help me out if you have any suggestions.

Thanks in Advance

Great WebPart, Jan! One bug - the new version still does not handle URLs correctly. If it is processing a list of Links with querystrings (ex:, the webpart displays a lot of the information from the querystring along with the display name.

Having the same problem as worthyb. In my case the column "Modified" shows the right time but the column "Time" is an hour off. Anybody know how to fix this?

wh1tegate Mar 23, 2009 at 3:42 PM
I have installed the 'whats new' web part but am having one small problem. The document link in the default 'Items' list links to the documents properties page not the document itself.......or am I doing something wrong.
Any ideas?

worthyb Mar 20, 2009 at 5:00 PM
The modified time shown in the web part is 4 hours earlier than the actual modified time.

Easy to install and the functionallity matches my expectations.
But the styling doesn't is there a way to edit this?

Has anyone found the solution on the 'page cannot be found' problem after clicking the document link? Please help.

While I love this program, is there a way to better determine "Content Type". Right now, I have no idea how to set what I want as apart of the content to display, example: Wiki, etc.

Installed in MOSS 2007, caused error right after install. Uninstalled it.

There is a problem with the link url.. i have "Page can not to be found" too !
If i try with 2 content types to included, it does not work, i think it use the operator "AND" instead of "OR"..

I had an issue with my Sharepoint 3.0 server and had to re-install, re-installed the WhatsNewWebPart and now the modified time is showing up 10 hours behind our actual modified time. Anyone else experienced this issue? Everything was working fine with the webpart prior to the re-installation. Any input would be appreciated! Thanks!

Did anyone ever solve the "Cannot import this webpart" problem? On some sites it works fine, others give the error. Any help would be appreciated!

I have successfully installed what'snew webpart in my machine and webpart is displaying all columns but i am getting only one error, when i double click on any document link in webpart then it is saying page can not be found.
I think there is problem with document path. any idea of that?

I get the same thing. Install and activate 1.1, add it to the page and get the "Cannot import this webpart" error. Anyone have a solution to this?

carrickm May 8, 2008 at 11:08 PM
I upgrade to v1.1, activated it, and also ran into the error "Cannot import this webpart" when trying to add it.

dido_b May 8, 2008 at 12:24 PM
Installation was ok, enabling in Site collection also, but trying to add a web part gives "Cannot import this webpart"

andyoye5 Apr 3, 2008 at 7:37 PM
After deploying and enabling it in Site collection features, I get

The "WhatsNewWebPart" Web Part appears to be causing a problem. Failed to find the XML file at location '12\Template\Features\EPPeopleList\feature.xml' error whenever I try to add it.

jrberg2 Feb 25, 2008 at 2:55 AM
Perfect! I was wondering how this could be done. I'm looking forward to giving it a try.
