The Autocomplete Text Field is a new SharePoint field that allows users to pick items coming from a SharePoint list by making use of an AJAX autocomplete text box.

This component uses the .NET Framework version 3.5 and ASP.NET AJAX. Make sure .NET 3.5 is installed on your server and ASP.NET AJAX has been configured before you install this component.

I have also installed this feature.
I can create an "Autocomplete single line of text" field, but it completely works as a usual text field and the box never appears.
I am working on this issue for two days and haven't find any solution.
Is there any solution for me to use this useful feature?
Thanks.

also, this solution does not work within a datasheet view. the fields display as readonly.

jan, great solution. one fault i've found is the autocomplete does not pull recursive data from the parent list, ie. folders.

JanTielens, I wonder if you found some time to point the AutocompleteTextField to look in a specific column?
Or is there an other sollution or workaround for this?

When I tried to install, I got error as "The Windows SharePoint Services Administrator service is NOT started!", so I need to abort the setup. How can I resolve this.

How can I make this pull items from Active Directory? I already have the connection setup in share point central administration.

SmartTools.CopyPaste: It doesn't support carrying over existing version details for the item being copied.

@PaulE: the bug related to multiple site collections has been solved.
@CharlieG and PaulE: currently you can only use the Title field as a lookup. If I find time I can extend the component so other fields can be used as well.

There is a bug in v1.1 of Autocomplete which causes symptoms such as no suggestions or suggestion box. A bug fix has been posted in the Discussions (http://www.codeplex.com/smarttools/Thread/View.aspx?ThreadId=34311) and Issue Tracker.

It is possible with the v1.1 (current) release of Autocomplete to point the lookup to a specific column in an existing table. However, the workaround will affect everywhere the Autocomplete column type is used. To make this change, look for "<FieldRef Name='Title' />" in the SmartToolsAutocompleteTextFieldService.asmx in your 12 Hive ISAPI folder. Simply change "Title" to the permanent column name of the column you wish to use (this is not necessarily the name of the column you see in the UI). This could be pretty challenging for people who are not Developers. Hopefully, Jan can incorporate a variable to be set in the column properties very similar to the "Autocomplete Lookup Settings" where we can choose which column will be used when performing the query.

hi,
i have a query that can i use AutoComplete control for sharepoint through code. just like a simple TextBox control. Actually we use custom forms for development in sharepoint. So we need to create controls from code. If i can then where i can find the class for Autocomplete control. I'm quiet a biggner kind of person. But i have to use a AutoComplete control.
Regards,
Salman

I am a new Sharepoint No Code Developer, and I find the autocomplete a very exciting new feature in Sharepoint. I downloaded ms ajax ASP.net AJAX Extensions 1.0 from MS, The AJAX.config.wsp installation feature, and the Smarttools.AutocompleteTextField.wsp feature and had the whole thing running in under 20 minutes without any .xml editing. Very Easy.

Upon testing, I found what may be a limitation of the autocompleteTextField. On my first test, I used an existing Employee Master list that had employee names in the third field of the list. When I searched, I got the list Column headers! After creating a custom one Column list, Employee Index, I was able to search all entrys.

Is it possible to point the AutocompleteTextField to look in a specific column in an existing table?

Thanks,

CharlieG

I am also facing the same problem. I created column called "Country" in my one of the lists and then creared other list with this field and with this lookup field from earlier list but its not pulling up the data and does not showing it for selection

I had the same problem. I created a list called "Stock" which had a single line of text column named "Description". After that, I created another list which had an autocomplete single line of text column (also named "Description) mapped to the Stock list. Just like it happened to andyoye05, there was no text box next to the field "Description". Any ideas? I'd really appreciate some help.

I created a new Column "Cities"and select "autocomplete single.." type. When I create to create a new item, "Cities" column doesn't has any text box in-front of it. Like where you typed "d"
kindly help.
